Street Outreach

Street Outreach was the first program undertaken by PCEH, and it remains an essential component of our efforts to END homelessness in Philadelphia. Outreach offers insight into life on the street through a steady dialogue with homeless individuals, and provides our first contact with many who need assistance in their own personal struggles with homelessness.

Outreach teams consist of anywhere from 2-4 outreach workers, the vast majority of which are volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Brian, Assistant Outreach Coordinator, at 215-232-1822.

Days and Times - Sunday: 5pm-7pm; Wednesday, and Thursday: 6pm-8pm

  • PCEH volunteers and staff walk the streets and alleys of Center City to engage homeless persons. We bring conversation, information, and concern to homeless men and women, and encouragement to change their situation.
  • We ask that volunteers be consistent. That means picking one outreach night and sticking to it--participating every week, if possible. Consistent outreach workers make friends, and friendships make outreach more rewarding for homeless persons, for our organization, and for you!
  • Volunteers are well-prepared through orientation before starting. Orientation provides focus on the mission of PCEH, the 2010 Plan, how our mission relates to outreach, and the nitty-gritty details of outreach itself.
